The NorthportSevs Northport Music Spotlight... from Northport!
Here it is, the thing you've all been eagarly awaiting, or at least pretending to for my sake, the Northport Music spotlight. All these artists were born in Northport or at least spent a significant portion of their lives there. Now, both you and I know that these are by no means all, or even a large percentage of, the musicians who have come out of Northport, these are just the ones that submitted to us. All this music is copyright the artists who submitted it... I think... I honestly have no idea when it comes to this legal jargon. You can download the songs individually, or if you're feeling really saucy, there's a zip at the bottom that contains all of submissions, plus a playlist file. Anyway, enough of my blabbering, ON WITH THE SHOW!

Name(s): Justin
aka: Justin Silverstein (+ dozens of aliases)
website: none

He's been making electronic music for a few years now, and he's fucking good. He's "I wish I could buy stock in him, so that when he becomes a millionaire I can make some money off of the deal" good. He's a one man band who does everything from trip-hop to progressive rock. He's finished dozens of tracks already, in addition to hundreds of unfinished experimental pieces, and he continues to pump them out at a blinding rate. This wouldn't be as amazing as it is except for the fact that the tracks explore so many different styles and musical ideas, it's hard to believe that it is all the result of one person in such a relatively short span of time. His main weapon being the keyboard and computer, he also is skilled on the guitar and is most recently working on writing some lyrics for his perfect-pitch voice to sing. Enough of me, just download his tracks and listen for yourself.

selected tracks:
Orgasm in C# fixed link
Faded Dreams

Name(s): Dan, Ken, Dan, Zach, Pat, Mike
aka: Warble (formerly: Teri Is Fat, Fisheye, The Long Island Sluts, etc.)
website: http://teri.northportsevs.com/

We're like the mixture of Hey Josh and Teri Is Fat. These mp3's were from band night on a li'l tape recorder, that's why the sax's sound a li'l fucked up. We'll be releasing our demo on Emo Sucks Records pretty soon. Damn, chocolate milk is delicious. I wish I had some of those big orange tic tacs. -Dan Raps

selected tracks:
Teri Is Fat
Oi To The World

Name(s): Brian, RJ, Ryan, Ryan
aka: The Bad Examples (TBX)
website: http://tbxonline.northportsevs.com/

Northport High's resident emo band. They whine about girls and sing it over guitars and drums. If you like emo, you might like these guys, if you don't like emo, don't expect them to change your opinions on the genre. They're all pretty cool kids and have a good attitude about their music, so even if you don't like their music, you should still respect the band.

selected tracks:
The Genes
Wail

Name(s): Matt
aka: The Borax Experiment
website: http://celeryclub.com/

The Borax Eperiment is a loose collaboration of paleomicrobotanists, particle physicists, and corn shuckers. Originating from the hard urban streets of Ogden, Utah, the Borax Experiment has revolutionized the music scene with its unique style, science rap. After the critical success of Systems Degeneration, the Borax team is planning a non-stop, whirlwind tour of nuclear waste facilities throughout the world. Look for their new release, Sub-Particulate Matter Makes me Wanna Puke.

selected tracks:
Systems Degeneration

Name(s): Dave
aka: MC Undeez
website: http://destructo.8m.com/

The most hardcore thug gangsta rapper to ever grace the face of hip-hop, MC Undeez has truly made a name for himself as the shining star of the underwear based hip-hop scene. His latest album, The Art of Self Deprecation, already a hit in Japan and Nigeria, is about to "blow up" huge everywhere else, even Mars. The below tracks are off of an old demo, and don't reflect the quality of the newer material, but I think you'll still be able to feel the raw power that he exudes in his performances.

selected tracks:
Boobalicious (Hardcore Michael Jackson Version)
I Can't Get Chicks

Name(s): Ian
aka: Aesop Rock
website: http://www.defjux.net/

Life's not a bitch / Life is a beautiful woman / You only call her a bitch because she won't let you get that pussy. Some lyrics from Daylight, off of Aesop Rock's latest album Labor Days, which was picked as one of CDNow's essential Hip-Hop albums of 2001. I definitely wouldn't consider myself a big hip-hop fan, especially underground hip-hop, but I definitely like Aesop Rock. From the tight lyrics to the slick production by Blockhead, it's all there. This was actually the only artist that we didn't receive as a direct submission, but we know he comes from Northport, and it was easy enough to grab the mp3's, so we're gonna include him anyway.

selected tracks:
Daylight
Labor
Battery

side note: Noon to Five made an offer to give us a tape to rip mp3's from, but never followed through on it. Apparently they're mostly from Sachem anyway, so I guess it's really no big loss.

big fuckin' zip <- this 40 meg badboy has all the mp3's above, plus a playlist file for extra laziness.

I fixed the link on the first of Silverstein's tracks, try it again if you tried before and it didn't work.

I find it hard that you would leave out Strongpoint on your list. They're better than all of these kids..
» Bam • 02/20/02

directly from the post: ...these are just the ones that submitted to us...
Strongpoint, as phenominal as they may be, never submitted, and being that I've never heard of them, I didn't persue the issue too far.
